METHODS OF WATERPROOFING ELEVATOR PIT

On the economic development, buildings, apartments, ... also sprouted close. Accordingly, the elevator system is an indispensable thing in human travel to save energy and time.

1. So what is an elevator pit ?

The lift pit is the section of the lift well below the lowest floor floor, usually designed to be located at a negative position compared to the natural height of the ground.

There are usually 3 types that are:

- Reinforced concrete pits.

- The hole is made of steel.

- Concrete column pit with brick walls.

2. Why waterproof the elevator pit ?

Because the lift pit is an item that is deep below the ground, especially in contact with a large pressure aquifer. Not only that, it may be due to the crack of the water pipe passing through the pit of the lift causing the problem of leaks, water leakage affecting the operation of the elevator. Therefore, when not treated well, it is easy to cause the leaks, leakage from underground water and infiltration into elevators affecting technical components such as engines, machinery ... this. very dangerous during operation and difficult to handle waterproofing later.

3. The most effective method of waterproofing the lift pit:

Currently, there are 2 solutions:

-Prevents absorption

-Negative waterproofing

3.1. Appropriate waterproofing method of elevator pits:

This method is also known as the method of using waterproofing membranes.

Commented this is a method to bring high efficiency. However, if this option is chosen, it must be conducted at the beginning, after the concrete lining is completed.

Construction steps:

Step 1: Clean the surface of concrete lining, this stage is very important because of the adhesion and waterproofing later.

Step 2: Start scanning Primer for the entire surface of the elevator pit area.

Next we conduct dry spreading and drying of this first layer of waterproofing.

Step 3: Use a mortar layer to protect the waterproofing membrane. When the mortar is dry, we proceed to formwork to begin pouring concrete into the pit.

Step 4: When the concrete is dry, we remove the formwork and conduct another layer of waterproofing Primer.

Note: The type of waterproof membrane we recommend is Sika Bituseal T130-SG waterproof membrane or Sika Bitiuseal T140-MG waterproof membrane.

If it is handling leakages, leaks, then we come to reverse waterproofing method.

3.2. Method of reverse waterproofing for lift pits:

Reverse waterproofing of lift holes, also known as spraying method. This method is quite time-consuming, so it is only used when the first method cannot be used.

The procedure is as follows:

Step 1: Always clean the surface to be constructed. We need to remove all the mortar, excess impurities, ... until we see the solid concrete.

Step 2: Re-plaster with new mortar to make surface.

Step 3: Moisten the surface.

Step 4: Mix the waterproofing mixture with the right ratio according to the set standards.

Step 5: Spray mixture onto Pit surface, thickness of about 2-3 nm. Wait for the first layer to dry, we proceed to spray layer 2 to cover the surface, in order to achieve the best waterproofing effect.

Step 6: We add one more layer of mortar to protect again, the process of waterproofing the elevator pit is completed.

Note: The construction of elevator pits requires high technology because it is related not only to waterproofing but also to the vibration of the machine, the engine .... so we can prolong the durability as well as structure of the construction.
