The surface of concrete roof floor and terrace is an area that is heavily influenced by external environment, causing the roof floor to be infiltrated regularly, cracked bird's feet. Non-draining water leads to leaks or delamination phenomenon, it causes osmosis.

Therefore, waterproofing the roof terrace, concrete roof deck is an essential task that any project also needs to perform, otherwise it will lead to damage to concrete, rusting of iron and steel, make the building degraded.

So to ensure effective waterproofing, the first, we need to select the appropriate waterproofing material, but before that we need to find out the cause of roof leakage.

1. The cause of the roof leakage phenomenon:

There are many reasons for the above phenomenon, but with our long experience in the profession, we summarize the following main causes:

- As stated from the beginning of the article, the terrace is the place most affected by the environment. If there is no slope for drainage, it will cause stagnation, which will eventually lead to leaks.

- Due to uneven shrinkage between the surface of the floor and the surrounding wall, this leads to delamination and the problem of leaks.

- Due to poor foundation structure, unqualified concrete quality makes the roof floor cracked.

- The previous process of waterproofing the roof floor was unsatisfactory, did not follow the right process, the quality of waterproof membrane was not good ....

- Before tiling, do not test the water (check the previously covered waterproof layer).
From the reasons mentioned above we offer the following 3 common and effective methods.

2. Plan for treating waterproofing the roof floor:

- Use 2 cement-based waterproofing additives.
- Use of highly elastic Polyurethane waterproofing material (the most popular today).
- Use hot or cold lamination film.

3. Method for waterproofing roof floor, terrace:

- First, we reinforced waterproofing for wide holes, puffiness, cracks with Sika Latex and non-shrink filler mortar.

- Carry out technical treatment at expansion joints, necking pipes through floors, drainage pipes by wrapping expanded rubber bars (hydraulic bar) and then pouring non-shrink mortar.

- Preparing construction surface for waterproofing the roof floor:

+ Clean all dirt, impurities, clean all impurities to ensure a clean construction surface without roughness.

+ With large cracks need to be carved out 2-3cm wide and filled with repair mortar and specialized waterproof glue.

In this article, we present the solution of waterproofing the roof floor with Polyurethane material.

3.1. Waterproofing the roof deck with Polyurethane material:

Step 1: After cleaning the surface, we conduct treatment of waterproofing the floor drain:

Using the machine, chisel the neck of the tube 2 to 3 cm in a V-shape, clean the dirt and then wrap the expansion gasket around the neck of the pipe. Next we mix the Grout non-shrink grout and pour it into the neck of the tube when sealed.

Step 2: Waterproofing the baseboards (important part).
Spraying or sweeping Polyurethane for the foot of the wall (can be thicker than the surface because the foot of the wall is more likely to leak), then proceed to scan the first waterproofing layer for the roof floor surface to be constructed.

Step 3: After the first layer is dry, we proceed to scan one more layer. Depending on the requirements of the surface as well as the initial quality of the roof floor, we apply a reasonable number of waterproofing layers.

Step 4: Pump the water to soak for 24 hours.
Step 5: Acceptance and handover of the project to customers.
